Festival Vision
A unique and original Tasman experience celebrating the joy of garlic, the food it flavours, and the music and arts that it inspires. The Koonya Garlic Festival is the longest running Garlic Festival in Australia and the first in Tasmania, and is one of Tasmania’s most anticipated harvest festival celebrations. Important focuses for the festival include the promotion of sustainability and education. The Koonya Garlic Festival is a not-for-profit organisation supporting amateur and commercial garlic growers throughout Tasmania. Our role is to attract growing numbers of passionate garlic lovers, foodies and gardeners from throughout Tasmania and beyond while keeping the quirky and family event feel. We aim to provide an opportunity for the local community to join together while we showcase the Peninsula as a place that is complemented by arts and culture, engaging with some of Tasmania and Australia’s most celebrated gardening and culinary experts.
Zero Waste Goals
While bringing all of these people together for a festive day, we are also striving for a Zero Waste event with minimum impact to our environment. Every effort is made to create an affordable zero waste event with collection of recyclables, compostable food and utensils and the small remainder of trash.
Food vendors use recyclable materials as much as possible and offer minimal paper and minimal plastic waste.
Plastic containers are recycled.
Food scraps are composted.
